Job Overview:

The General Manager will oversee the strategic, operational, and financial management of the company's barging and shipping operations.

This role is designed for an experienced, high-caliber individual who will lead a key operational segment, drive organizational growth, and play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s long-term strategic direction.

The ideal candidate will possess deep maritime industry experience, with a strong background in ship management, chartering, barging operations, and technical oversight. The candidate will work closely with international teams and local operations, demonstrating exceptional leadership in driving performance, safety, and sustainability within our maritime operations.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute long-term strategies for the shipping and barging division, contributing to the overall company vision of sustainable growth, market expansion, and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for market expansion, new service offerings, and innovation within the shipping and barging sectors.
  • Establish and maintain key partnerships with clients, suppliers, and external stakeholders to drive business development and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Stay informed of global industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to ensure the company remains competitive and compliant in the market.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the shipping and barging division, ensuring smooth and efficient logistics and fleet management across all domestic and international routes.
  • Optimize operational costs while improving service delivery and maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility.
  • Oversee the technical performance and maintenance of barges and vessels, including fuel consumption, turnaround times, crew management, and troubleshooting operational challenges.
  • Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for barging operations to evaluate performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and review operational metrics related to cost control, fuel consumption, scheduling efficiency, and overall performance to meet organizational goals.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of operations managers, logistics coordinators, and technical staff, fostering a culture of accountability, performance excellence, and collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international maritime regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation, particularly related to fuel management, crew health and safety, and maritime operations.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget for the shipping and barging division, ensuring effective cost management, financial discipline, and profitability.
  • Continuously evaluate and adjust financial models, pricing strategies, and operational forecasts to align with market dynamics and company goals.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear and transparent communication with clients, regulatory bodies, suppliers, and internal departments.

Qualification & Skills:

1. Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 
    • Master's degree or MBA is a plus.

2. Skills:

    • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and team management abilities.
    • Advanced proficiency in maritime logistics software and tools.
    • Financial acumen with the ability to oversee budgeting, cost analysis, and profitability.
    • Fluent in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.

3. Experience:

    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the maritime and logistics industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within shipping and barging operations.
    • Demonstrated expertise in chartering, ship management, barging operations, and managing large-scale, complex maritime projects.
    • In-depth understanding of operational performance metrics, fuel consumption analysis, and crew management in a barging environment.
    • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and to navigate cultural diversity, particularly in Southeast Asia, with a focus on Indonesia.
